The Dallas Cowboys fell to the Baltimore Ravens in stunning fashion on Sunday evening, losing on a last-second field goal in Brazil.
The Cowboys tied the game with 0:07 remaining, only to watch Lamar Jackson get the Ravens into field goal position for a game-winning score as time was expiring. The Ravens improved to 2-1 on the year with the win, while the Cowboys dropped to 1-2 on the season with the loss.
Dallas had a chance to take the lead late. The Cowboys had 1st and Goal from the 2-yard line with less than :30 to play. However, the Cowboys had an incomplete pass on first down, a false start penalty on second down and a throw away pass on third down, leading to a field goal.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer admitted postgame that he made a mistake telling Dak Prescott to throw the ball away early on that pivotal third down call.
Schottenheimer was disappointed for everyone involved.
“At the end of the day, I just really just feel bad for [the players],” said Schottenheimer after the loss. “ You know, we played hard, we fought back, after a long trip, and we had our chance to win. Unfortunately, we didn’t get it done.”
Ultimately, the Cowboys blew it.
“Yeah, we thought we were going to score a touchdown,” he said. “We thought we were gonna score a touchdown and move the ball really well down there. We’ve got to find a way to punch it in. I’ve got to call some better plays to get it in.
“… So proud of this team, this group of young men. They laid it all on the line.”
The Cowboys will take on the Texans in Week 4.
“I don’t ever question these guys, man. Watch the way they play,” said Schottenheimer. “This team doesn’t have quit in them, but they’re hurting right now. I’m hurting. I felt like we made enough plays to go win the game, but we didn’t. So we give Baltimore credit for that.
“I heard from the guys in the locker room, they put a lot into this. It’s a long trip, but, I mean, no one cares.”
