The Milwaukee Brewers will be without this left-handed reliever for the second time this season.
The Brewers announced on Wednesday that they're placing lefty reliever Rob Zastryzny on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 31) with a left trapezius strain and are recalling fellow lefty reliever Robert Gasser from Triple-A Nashville.
As alluded to, Zastryzny previously spent time on the IL after suffering a left rhomboid strain while pitching for Team Canada during the World Baseball Classic.
Milwaukee ultimately placed the 34-year-old on the shelf at the start of the season and later transferred him to the 60-day IL on April 14.
Despite recently being activated, Zastryzny has yet to appear in a game for the Brewers this season. The Brewers acquired the veteran from the New York Yankees for cash considerations in May 2025 and the move proved to be a good one.
In 26 games last season, Zastryzny posted a 2.46 ERA with 20 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.18 across 22 innings pitched.
Zastryzny previously spent time with the Brewers when he inked a minor league deal with the ballclub in December 2023. He wound up appearing in nine games for Milwaukee during the 2024 season, logging a 1.17 ERA and five punchouts over 7.2 innings. Zastryzny, though, was placed on the injured list with left elbow tendinitis on July 26 and was transferred to the 60-day IL on September 12, ending his season.
The Brewers will now have to wait to get their lefty back in the bullpen, which has still performed very well this year, posting a 3.22 ERA.
As for Gasser, he will start for the Brewers tonight against the San Francisco Giants. In two starts this season, the lefty is 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA, seven strikeouts, six walks and a 1.56 WHIP in 8.1 innings.
