The Milwaukee Brewers could have a realistic path to acquiring Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal without giving up the top prospect in their farm system. As the MLB trade deadline approaches, a new report suggests Milwaukee remains well-positioned to pursue one of the market's premier starting pitchers while keeping its long-term plans intact.
With the Brewers leading the National League Central, adding another frontline starter would further strengthen a club already viewed as a legitimate World Series contender.
Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden reported on X that neither the Brewers nor the Tampa Bay Rays are expected to include their top prospects, Jesús Made and Theo Gillen respectively, in any trade package for Skubal. Bowden added that Milwaukee has enough organizational depth to put together a competitive offer without moving Made.
That update should encourage Brewers fans. Made has emerged as MLB Pipeline's No. 1 overall prospect, making him one of the organization's most valuable long-term assets. Keeping him while pursuing an established ace would represent a major win for Milwaukee's front office.
President of baseball operations Matt Arnold has built one of baseball's deepest farm systems, giving the Brewers flexibility to construct a strong package around other highly regarded prospects if trade talks with Detroit continue.
Skubal remains one of the most sought-after pitchers available before Monday's deadline. The left-hander owns a 2.79 ERA with a 7- 5 record, 116 strikeouts, a 0.91 WHIP and a .210 opponents batting average across 96.2 innings in 16 starts this season.

Milwaukee enters the weekend with a 67- 41 record and a 5.5-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central. Adding Skubal to a rotation that already features Jacob Misiorowski would give the Brewers another frontline weapon for a potential postseason run.
While nothing appears imminent, Bowden's report reinforces that Milwaukee remains firmly in the mix. If the Brewers can land Skubal without including Made, they could significantly improve their chances of competing for a championship while preserving the centerpiece of their future.
