Brett Bateman had a memorable introduction to Major League Baseball, and the Toronto Blue Jays rookie made sure to thank the fans who supported him along the way.
After completing his first MLB season, Bateman shared a short but meaningful message with Toronto supporters. The outfielder kept it simple, expressing his gratitude with a reminder of how far his baseball journey had taken him.
“Thank you Toronto! Just a kid playing’ ball.”
The Blue Jays shared Bateman’s message on social media following their final regular-season game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Bateman’s rookie campaign gave Toronto plenty of reasons to be excited about his future. He finished the season with a .329 batting average, a .402 on-base percentage and a .826 OPS across 41 games.
The young outfielder collected 52 hits in 158 at-bats, including seven doubles, one triple and two home runs. He also scored 28 runs and drove in 11, making an immediate impact after arriving in the majors.
His transition was particularly impressive considering how quickly his opportunity arrived. Bateman made his MLB debut in August and recorded a double against Zack Wheeler for his first major league hit.

His season also included a late injury scare. Bateman exited a September game after an awkward play in the outfield, but subsequent examinations reportedly found no major structural damage. He returned before the regular season ended.
For a Toronto team that missed the postseason, Bateman’s emergence was a welcome bright spot. His message may have been brief, but it reflected the excitement of a rookie who made the most of his first opportunity.
The Blue Jays will hope that first-year success becomes the foundation for an even bigger role in 2027.
