No Breece Hall for the New York Jets in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears.
Hall was seen grabbing his leg when he was headed out of bounds in the fourth quarter of the Jets game against the Detroit Lions in Week 3. Although the injury to his right quad muscle was not as severe as the Jets first feared – a tear might well have ended Hall’s season – the pull in that key muscle is usually slow healing, particularly for a running back that relies on quick cutting to be effective.
Now the Jets will have to deal with missing one of their key offensive weapons for a few games. Hall is listed as “week to week,” which generally adds up to two or more games.
The running game has not been effective for the Jets in the last two games. The Jets backfield generated just 67 yards against Green Bay and a paltry 58 against Detroit. Some of that is situational, but it’s clear the offensive line has not gotten the push needed to open holes.
Adding to the Jets’ woes, starting left guard Dylan Parham suffered a knee injury late in the Detroit game. He’s been spotted wearing an air cast, so his status is questionable for this weekend’s game against Chicago. Parham has been a solid contributor on the Jets line, which largely has struggled.
The Jets will turn to Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis in the backfield against Chicago. Allen, 22, has averaged 3.7 yards on 129 career carries. Davis, 24, has put up 5.6 yards on 73 attempts, though he hasn’t yet received a carry this season.
Neither is on the level of Hall, who is the bell cow for the Jets ground game. He had 1065 yards rushing and 36 receptions for 350 yards in 16 games in 2025.
Hall is in the first year of a three-year, $45.75 million extension, making him one of the top running backs in the NFL. His game perfectly fit new offensive coordinator Frank Reich’s offense, which loves the short passing game. Hall had 76 catches in 2023.
“Breece is an incredible football player,” offensive coordinator Frank Reich said earlier this year. “He understands the game at such a high level. It’s hard to explain. I honestly feel like he could play any position on the field. Combined with being a super-talented runner, that makes us want him on the field every play.
“Breece is a guy we can use in a lot of different ways.”
So far, it’s been an injury-filled campaign for Hall. He pulled a groin muscle in the late stages of the preseason, but didn’t show any lack of burst or effectiveness in his opening game against the Tennessee Titans. .
The Jets now rank 26th in the NFL in rushing yards per game (92.3) and 30th in yards per carry (3.3). They have been hoping to rev that total up, but have been unsuccessful. Hall is among those stifled, limited to an average of 2.1 yards per carry after getting 102 yards and a touchdown on opening day.
