The Detroit Lions are trading running back David Montgomery.

Hours after the Detroit Lions running back refuted trade rumors, the NFC North team agreed to a trade. The Lions are sending Montgomery to the Houston Texans, according to multiple reporters. Montgomery is being traded to the Texans in exchange for a fifth round NFL Draft pick.

"BREAKING: The Houston Texans are trading for Lions running back David Montgomery, sources tell The Athletic," Dianna Russini reported.

Adam Schefter added: "Trade: Lions are sending RB David Montgomery to the Texans for a 5th-round pick, per sources."

Montgomery, who has 33 rushing touchdowns since the start of the 2023 season, is clearly now playing second fiddle to the now-23-year-old phenom that is Jahmyr Gibbs. So, the Lions are choosing to move on.

According to ESPN NFL senior reporter Jeremy Fowler, Montgomery wanted out. However, the Lions star refuted that in a tweet.

"Dmo told you that ?" he wrote in a tweet.

Whether or not he wanted out, he's now gone. The Lions have finalized a March 2 trade with the Houston Texans, sending their former star running back to the AFC, in exchange for a late NFL Draft pick.

The NFL offseason continues to roll along.
