France qualified for the 2026 World Cup after finishing first in Group D of the UEFA World Cup qualifiers. France was in Group D with Ukraine, Iceland, and Azerbaijan.
France finished first with 16 points with a record of five wins and one draw. France won all of their home games in France.
Their previous match saw them beat Azerbaijan 3-1 away from home with goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Maghnes Akliouche, and an own goal of Shahrudin Mahammadaiyev.
