The Atlanta Braves made a roster move Thursday that could have significant implications for Ha-Seong Kim's role on the club.
By recalling infielder Jim Jarvis from Triple-A Gwinnett, Atlanta added another option to an infield where Kim has struggled to secure consistent production.
Kim has battled through a difficult season with the Braves after returning from a hand injury in May. His offensive struggles have already resulted in inconsistent playing time, and Jarvis' arrival creates even more competition for starts at shortstop and around the infield.
The move gives Atlanta another player capable of contributing immediately while increasing the pressure on Kim to turn his season around. The Braves announced the transaction Thursday afternoon.
Jarvis was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett after putting together one of the organization's best offensive seasons. The 25-year-old is batting .313 with a .406 on-base percentage, an .867 OPS, six home runs, 36 RBIs, and 32 stolen bases.
The versatile infielder can play shortstop, second base, and third base, giving the Atlanta Braves another flexible defensive option. His promotion came after the club designated infielder Rowdy Tellez for assignment to open a roster spot.
Kim has struggled to make an impact offensively since returning from injury, batting .068 with a .171 on-base percentage and a .239 OPS through 73 at-bats. If Jarvis performs well, he could earn a larger share of the playing time that Kim has been trying to reclaim.

The Atlanta Braves entered Thursday with a 50-34 record and held first place in the National League East. A club with postseason aspirations has little room to wait for struggling hitters to find their rhythm.
Jarvis now has an opportunity to establish himself in the major leagues. If he takes advantage of the promotion, Kim's place on the roster could come under increasing pressure as Atlanta continues prioritizing production over potential.
