Despite having one of the best records in baseball and leading the National League East division, the Atlanta Braves are still dealing with a plethora of injuries.
The pitching staff has taken the largest hit, as they are currently without starters Spencer Schwellenbach, Spencer Strider, Reynaldo López, as well as relivers Robert Suarez and Joe Jiménez, among others.
In a surprising turn of events, it appears that Jiménez may be able to return this season following multiple surgeries since the end of the 2024 season.
The 31-year-old shared to his Instagram profile that has has completed his fifth bullpen session, saying he feels the best he’s felt.
Jiménez has not pitched since that 2024 season, where he posted a career-best 2.62 ERA with 82 strikeouts, 23 walks and a 0.99 WHIP in 68 2/3 innings across 69 appearances.
Jiménez could be a huge late-season option for the Braves in the back end of their bullpen, he would be able to support struggling closer Raisel Iglesias.
There still has not been much news on the Braves’ set-up man Suarez, and he may not return this season as previously expected.
There is sure to be more news on the potential return of Jiménez this season.
