The Atlanta Braves entered Tuesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox with the best record in baseball at 45-21, continuing what has been a dominant first half of the season. A major reason for that success has been the play of Ronald Acuña Jr., who has once again been one of the most productive players in the National League.
At Rate Field, Atlanta hoped to extend its three-game winning streak and strengthen its grip atop the standings, with Acuña batting .254 with 49 hits, seven home runs, 22 RBIs, 31 runs, 15 stolen bases, a .373 on-base percentage, and a .425 slugging percentage in 52 games.
However, his momentum was altered after he appeared to suffer an injury while running to first base in the fourth inning. Acuña was forced to leave the game with Atlanta holding a 4-2 lead.

The Braves later announced that Acuña was removed due to left hamstring tightness.
Following Tuesday’s 6-5 loss, Braves manager Walt Weiss confirmed that Acuña will not be placed on the injured list and is considered day-to-day. Weiss also expressed optimism about the situation, saying the Braves do not believe the injury is “as bad as the last one,” referring to the hamstring issue that sidelined Acuña earlier this season (via Braves reporter Wiley Ballard).
Acuña missed time in May with a left hamstring strain and was later forced from another game because of left thumb pain that was eventually diagnosed as a bone bruise. He ultimately avoided a lengthy absence in both instances and returned to the lineup after relatively short stints on the sidelines.
Injuries have become a recurring problem for Acuña in recent years. His 2024 season ended abruptly when he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. The injury required surgery and sidelined him for the remainder of the season, marking the second ACL tear of his career after a similar injury to his right knee in 2021.
Acuña returned in 2025 but was limited to 95 games, though he still produced at an All-Star level, batting .290 with 21 home runs.
For now, Atlanta can only hope his latest injury won’t keep him on the sidelines for an extended period. The Braves have championship aspirations and Acuña remains one of the most important players on the roster.
The club will continue monitoring Acuña’s condition closely.
