Brandon Woodruff is making progress in his recovery, giving the Milwaukee Brewers another reason to feel optimistic during their postseason run. The veteran right-hander recently revealed that he could begin throwing off a mound soon, although he does not have a specific date in mind.
Woodruff’s update came as the Brewers prepared for their National League Division Series matchup with the San Diego Padres. Milwaukee opened the series with a 3-2 victory in Game 1, putting itself in a strong position as it pursues a deeper October run.
The two-time All-Star spoke with reporters about his recovery, offering a positive sign without promising an imminent return. His comments also left open the possibility of making it back if Milwaukee advances far enough.
“I’m progressing. Getting to the point where I can get off the mound pretty soon… Don’t have an exact date. But very soon,” Woodruff said.
The update is significant given the uncertainty surrounding his shoulder earlier in the year. Woodruff had been facing the possibility of surgery before further medical evaluation reportedly changed the outlook. Instead, he continued a recovery program that has gradually moved him closer to throwing from a mound.
A return during the World Series would still be an ambitious target. Woodruff has not yet resumed mound work, and progressing to that stage is only one step in a longer process. He would still need to build up his arm and demonstrate that he can handle competitive action.

Even without a clear timetable, his progress is encouraging for a Milwaukee team that could use another experienced arm if it reaches the final stage of the postseason. Woodruff’s presence around the clubhouse also gives the Brewers a familiar veteran voice during a high-pressure stretch.
For now, Milwaukee’s focus remains on the Padres and the next game in the series. Woodruff’s recovery is a separate storyline, but the possibility of having him available later in October gives the Brewers another reason to keep an eye on the weeks ahead.
