Brandon Woodruff is still working toward a return as the Milwaukee Brewers prepare for the World Series, but the right-hander has another hurdle to clear before he can join the postseason roster. He needs to face live hitters as he continues his recovery from a right shoulder injury.

Woodruff addressed his availability in a video shared by Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel after the Brewers clinched the National League pennant. The two-time All-Star made it clear that he wants to pitch in the Fall Classic, although his return has not been confirmed.

The Brewers have advanced to the World Series for the first time since 1982 after sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Championship Series. Milwaukee won Game 4 by a 6-4 score Thursday, completing the sweep and securing its place in the championship round.

Woodruff’s recovery has been a long process. The veteran right-hander avoided a second right shoulder procedure in 2026 after initially facing the prospect of season-ending surgery. He last pitched for Milwaukee on July 4, and his rehabilitation has focused on determining whether he can safely return to the mound.

The 33-year-old recently progressed to bullpen work, throwing 31 pitches during a session at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday. Facing live hitters would be another important step, allowing the Brewers to evaluate how his shoulder responds to a more game-like workload.

Woodruff’s potential return would give Milwaukee another experienced arm to consider for the World Series. However, the team must weigh his health and readiness against the demands of postseason competition. A place on the roster is not guaranteed, and he would likely need to contribute in relief if cleared to pitch.

Milwaukee finished the regular season 103-59, the best record in the majors, and has continued its strong run through the playoffs. The Brewers now await the winner of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays.

Woodruff’s next test will be facing live hitters. Until he completes that step and the team evaluates his condition, his World Series availability remains uncertain.
