Brandon Aubrey and the Dallas Cowboys did not have the 2025 NFL season they were hoping for. After beginning the year 6-5-1 and in the hunt for a playoff spot, the Cowboys finished 2025 losing four of their last five games, dropping to 7-9-1 and missing out on the postseason for a second consecutive season.
Still, Aubrey continued to prove he is one of the best kickers in the NFL during his third season in Dallas. The former MLS player made 36 of 42 field goals, good for 85.7%, while also hitting 47 of 48 extra-point attempts, totaling 155 points for the Cowboys. He also earned his third Pro Bowl selection and third All-Pro nod.

But following the 2025 NFL season, Aubrey saw his three-year, $2.695 million contract come to an end, making him a restricted free agent. Reports this offseason indicate the Cowboys are looking to make Aubrey the league’s highest-paid kicker, offering an extension worth $6.5 million per year. However, those same reports suggest Aubrey is seeking a deal closer to $10 million annually. As negotiations continue, Dallas elected to place a $5.76 million second-round tender on the kicker.
However, in a recent episode of “The Dumb Zone,” Aubrey made a guest appearance and revealed that some of the contract reports circulating online are not accurate. Still, it has not bothered Aubrey, who remains focused on his kicking during the offseason.
"It's been a lot of incorrect information and just people clinging onto random numbers that have been thrown out," Aubrey said. "There's incomplete information dumped from probably both sides at this point and people are trying to make a story out of, you know, scraps of information and filling in holes that they don't have details on. So I don't care about all that, just focus on kicking the football. If I have a good year, it'll all take care of itself. So that's what I'm gonna focus on."
Aubrey finished the interview by announcing that he does, in fact, want to remain with the Cowboys going forward, and the team feels the same way.
"Just know that I want to be here in Dallas, and it seems like the Cowboys want me here in Dallas," Aubrey added.
While Aubrey awaits a new contract, the Cowboys will be looking to continue to add players in free agency, eyeing a return to the playoffs.
