With questions surrounding the Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver group entering this season, Bleacher Report has proposed a potential solution.
Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari believes a rebuilding team with a questionable receiving corps, such as the Dolphins, would make sense as a landing spot for San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk.
“None of those teams have high expectations, but if one of them could acquire Aiyuk and get him anywhere close to the player he was in 2023 when he set a career high with 1,342 receiving yards, it could be a huge win for the organization moving forward,” Chiari wrote.
Aiyuk has been on the reserve/left squad list since December 2025 after stepping away from the team and stopping his rehabilitation from the knee injury that sidelined him in 2024. He reportedly wants the 49ers to release him so he can join a new team, but San Francisco doesn’t appear to be in any rush to part ways with him.
The move would not make much sense for a Dolphins team that underwent a roster overhaul under first-year coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan. They are trying to establish a winning, positive culture within an organization that hasn’t won a playoff game since 2000.

Even if Aiyuk is healthy, the Dolphins have young receivers in Chris Bell and Caleb Douglas whom they want to evaluate as potential No. 1 options. They also have Malik Washington, Jalen Tolbert and Tutu Atwell—unproven players in whom they appear to have confidence.
If Aiyuk is healthy and anywhere close to the player he was with the 49ers, he could help almost any team in the league. But acquiring him doesn’t make much sense for a Dolphins team trying to build a foundation for years to come. The fit likely wouldn’t appeal to Aiyuk, either, considering Miami is nowhere close to contending.
