Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason isn't very active on social media, but even he's aware that he's going viral this week.
During this Tuesday's edition of "Boomer & Gio" on WFAN, Esiason offered his thoughts on Giants pass rusher Abdul Carter calling out Jaxson Dart for introducing President Donald Trump at a recent rally. He had an issue with Carter voicing his displeasure with Dart on social media.
“This was a real error on the part of Abdul Carter. Not on the part of Jaxson Dart,” the former NFL quarterback said. “Jaxson Dart was asked to do something. To introduce the President of the United States. How many people get an opportunity to do something like that? Regardless of who the president is. You might’ve hated Barack Obama. You might’ve hated Joe Biden. And some guys didn’t want to go to the White House because they didn’t like those presidents, just like other guys didn’t want to go because they didn’t like President Trump. To put this out like a child on social media is ridiculous. And then when I heard, ‘Yeah, we spoke man to man.’ Yeah, there was only one man on that call, and that was Jaxson Dart.”
Countless NFL fans criticized Esiason for strictly placing the blame on Carter. He even received backlash from Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens.
“You’re a bonehead,” Owens wrote on social media. “So him being late to meetings make him not a man. Stop! Everyone has been late. So what?!! You were a high draft pick, I’m sure there are that say you didn’t live up to your draft status!!”
Boomer isn't backing down.
Despite all the heat he's taking online, Esiason refuses to apologize to Carter or anyone offended by his remarks.
"Jaxson Dart wasn’t political at all, but I guess people would say that since he was there, he was supporting the president, which is fine. He’s allowed to do that. It’s amazing how people just take what you say. And basically, I was pretty harsh on Abdul Carter for a reason," Esiason said during Wednesday's show, via Awful Announcing. "If you are around here and you’re following the Giants and you saw what Mike Kafka ended up having to do to make an example out of Abdul Carter with the way that he was acting — that’s part of his story as the New York Giants, which was completely underwhelming. And this is a guy who was looking for number 11, because that was his college number, I guess. Then he was looking for number 56. The guy is completely clueless to what’s the things that he was asking for when he first got here."
Esiason wasn't done offering his two cents on Carter.
"Just play football, man. Be your best self, be the guy that everybody needs you to be, and be that game wrecker that you were supposedly at Penn State, and everybody was excited about having you here, and then you pull what you pulled last year on the field and in the locker room, and basically, one of the reasons why a guy lost his job. So yeah, why would you decide to embroil yourself into a social media fight when you didn’t have to do that."
It'd be awfully interesting to see Carter interact with Esiason on WFAN. We're not so sure the former No. 3 pick is up for that debate though.
