For decades the Boise State Broncos have been one of college football’s premier chaos bringers among non-power conference schools. As Week 1 of the 2026 season continues to unfold, they might be bringing their biggest batch of chaos yet.
The Broncos are on the road at Autzen Stadium today taking on the Oregon Ducks, the No. 2 team in the country. To say they’ve given Oregon all they can handle might be an understatement.
On their opening drive, Boise State marched all the way down the field on 11 plays and 90 yards to score a touchdown and take an early 7-0 lead. Oregon wasn’t able to find a game-tying score until the second quarter. But Boise State was happy to capitalize on Oregon’s surprisingly slow start.
After giving up the touchdown to Oregon, the Broncos scored 10 unanswered points to take a 17-7 lead.
The Ducks managed to cut into that deficit just before halftime, but Boise State still have control with a 17-14 lead as of writing.
Upset Alert?
Fans on X have taken notice of the Broncos’ strong start to the game and are wondering if an epic upset could be brewing for Week 1.
“WTH is going on in Eugene with this Oregon/Boise State game?? Is this really the big upset nobody expected? I sure didn’t…” one user on X wrote.
“On the one hand, Oregon probably had the toughest matchup of any top team in Week 1 On the other, this has been an extremely sloppy performance. Ducks on full upset alert,” wrote another.
“Boise looks real good and Oregon does not. Upset alert.”

Fans might be putting the cart before the horse a bit though. Oregon is led by quarterback Dante Moore, who many feel could have been an NFL starting quarterback by now if he had entered the draft a few months ago.
So long as Oregon keeps the game close, they’ll be dangerous.
But whether Oregon manages to take home the win in the second half, they’ve shown some vulnerabilities far earlier than anyone expected.
