The Toronto Blue Jays finally put an end to their six-game losing streak on Monday, edging the New York Mets 2-1 at Rogers Centre for their 40th win of the season. The victory gave Toronto a much-needed victory after falling further behind in the American League East and kept the club within striking distance of the Wild Card race.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. contributed to the win, going 1-for-4 while continuing to search for his best form. Although he has yet to resemble the player who carried Toronto through last year’s postseason, the Blue Jays are hoping he can build on Monday’s performance with the All-Star break fast approaching.

As Toronto prepares to clinch the series against New York, another positive update involving Guerrero emerged. MLB released the first Phase 2 update of American League All-Star voting on Tuesday, with Guerrero holding a commanding lead over New York Yankeesfirst baseman Ben Rice in the race to become the AL’s starting first baseman.

According to MLB, Guerrero has received 55% of the Phase 2 vote compared to Rice’s 45%, putting him in position to earn another starting assignment at the Midsummer Classic.

If Guerrero maintains his lead through Thursday’s close of voting, he will earn his sixth consecutive All-Star selection and his fifth career All-Star start. The 27-year-old first became an All-Star in 2021 and has since represented Toronto every season, with another appearance now within reach.

Guerrero joins a Blue Jays team already guaranteed one starting spot after Ernie Clement finished as the American League’s leading vote-getter during Phase 1, automatically securing the starting job at second base for his first career All-Star appearance.

While the fan support remains strong, Guerrero will also be focused on improving his production. Through 81 games, he is batting .268 with 4 home runs, 34 RBIs, 45 runs scored and a .695 OPS. Those numbers fall well below the standard he established in 2025 and are a major reason Toronto’s offense has struggled this year.

Guerrero will have another opportunity to turn things around Tuesday when the Blue Jays continue their series against the Mets. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET at Rogers Centre.
