The Toronto Blue Jays received more discouraging injury news before Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox after manager John Schneider revealed that pitching prospect Jake Bloss has suffered a teres major shoulder injury.
The setback comes while Bloss was completing a rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo following Tommy John surgery in May 2025. Instead of moving closer to his major league return, the 24-year-old now faces another lengthy recovery that is expected to sideline him for several months.
The injury is another blow to the Blue Jays organization already dealing with a growing list of pitching injuries. Bloss had been viewed as a potential second-half reinforcement for Toronto's rotation before suffering the shoulder issue, which significantly delays his return timeline.
Toronto entered the series looking to bounce back after opening the second half with a 12-4 loss to the White Sox at Rogers Centre. The defeat dropped the Blue Jays to 45-52, leaving them last in the American League East and 11.5 games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays.
The club has struggled on both sides of the ball recently, going 4-6 over its last 10 games while posting a .207 team batting average and a 5.19 ERA during that stretch. With the trade deadline approaching, Toronto's need for healthy pitching has become increasingly urgent.

Bloss joins an injury list that already includes Max Scherzer, Bowden Francis, Yimi García, José Berríos, Cody Ponce, Addison Barger and Anthony Santander. The lack of available pitching depth leaves the Blue Jays with few internal options as they try to remain competitive.
With Bloss now expected to miss additional time, Toronto may have little choice but to explore outside pitching help before the trade deadline if it hopes to climb back into the American League Wild Card race.
