The Toronto Blue Jays have kept Lenyn Sosa in the organization after the infielder cleared outright waivers Tuesday and was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo.
Toronto also activated Sosa from the 60-day injured list before removing him from the 40-man roster. The move came ahead of the Blue Jays’ series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Sosa has been sidelined since May with a wrist injury and appeared in only 28 games for Toronto after joining the club in an April trade with the Chicago White Sox. He hit .188 with one home run, four doubles and six RBIs in 84 at-bats.

The 26-year-old infielder struggled to find his footing offensively after the trade. Across both clubs this season, Sosa has hit .195 with a .207 on-base percentage and a .490 OPS in 40 games.
His outright assignment gives Toronto a way to retain Sosa as organizational depth while opening space on its 40-man roster. He has experience at second base, third base and first base, giving the Blue Jays some positional flexibility in Buffalo.

Sosa joined the Blue Jays on April 13 in a trade that sent outfielder Jordan Rich and future considerations to the White Sox. He had previously spent his entire Major League career with Chicago.
For Toronto, the decision comes as the club manages its roster during the playoff push. Sosa can now continue working toward a return to the majors with Buffalo while the Blue Jays maintain control of his services.
