Trey Yesavage’s rookie season has been one of the biggest positives for the Toronto Blue Jays despite an up-and-down year for the club. After beginning the season on the injured list, the 23-year-old worked his way back into Toronto’s rotation and entered Tuesday’s start against the Houston Astros with a 5-5 record, a 3.73 ERA and 91 strikeouts over 91⅔ innings in 17 starts.
His latest outing was cut short after just two scoreless innings. Yesavage appeared to be in discomfort while warming up for the third inning, prompting manager John Schneider and the training staff to visit the mound before he was removed from the game.

The Blue Jays confirmed Wednesday that Yesavage has been placed on the 15-day injured list with left knee discomfort. In a corresponding move, the club recalled right-handers Lazaro Estrada and Chase Lee from Triple-A Buffalo, with both pitchers available for Wednesday’s game.
The Blue Jays also optioned Chad Dallas back to Triple-A after he replaced Yesavage and threw four innings in relief Tuesday.
It is the second trip to the injured list for Yesavage this season. He opened the year sidelined by a right shoulder impingement after reporting to spring training with the issue, delaying his regular-season debut until May. The club also managed his workload carefully after his rapid rise through four minor league levels in 2025 and a deep postseason run that included a World Series rookie strikeout record.
The Blue Jays will now be without one of the key young arms in their rotation while awaiting the results of his latest evaluation.
