Amid a difficult 2026 MLB season for the Toronto Blue Jays, the team earned four All-Star selections, including second baseman Ernie Clement, first basemanVladimir Guerrero Jr., closing pitcher Louis Varland and starting pitcher Dylan Cease. Entering Sunday’s game against the San Diego Padres, the Blue Jays are 45-50, and less than a game ahead of the last-place Baltimore Orioles in the American League East.
Despite a challenging season for the offense, the club’s quality pitching staff has helped to prevent the season from entering a complete free fall. Led by first-time All-Star selections Dylan Cease and Louis Varland, the Blue Jays are 11th in the MLB in team ERA at 4.12.

It was announced that New York Yankees right-hander Cam Schlittler would not start Tuesday's All-Star Game as a precautionary measure so he can rest before the second half of the season. The Blue Jays revealed that Cease has been selected as the American League's starting pitcher in Philadelphia.
"Cease the Moment ⭐️ Dylan Cease will start the All-Star Game!" the Blue Jays posted on X.
With Schlittler unavailable, Cease was selected to receive the honor after establishing himself as one of the American League's most dominant starters throughout the first half of the season.
While Toronto has so far fallen short of expectations, Cease has given the Blue Jays an ace they can rely on. Through 17 starts, the 30-year-old owns a 6-4 record with a 2.56 ERA and an American League-leading 148 strikeouts across 98.1 innings.
Earning the All-Star Game starting assignment is another significant milestone in Cease's career, especially given that this is his first season earning All-Star honors.
Although the Blue Jays still face an uphill climb in the American League standings after the All-Star break, they'll hope their ace can continue leading the rotation as they attempt to turn their season around.
