Toronto Blue Jays infielder Andres Gimenez remains one of the most valuable players on the roster. Gimenez joined Toronto ahead of the 2025 season in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians. While he does not offer much with the bat, his defense and versatility are incredibly important for the Blue Jays.
The 27-year-old grades out as an above-average defender at both second base and shortstop. Gimenez has been better in the batter’s box this year than he was in his debut season in 2025.
Across 122 games, he has posted a .238 batting average, .283 on-base percentage, .638 OPS, eight home runs and 49 RBIs. He still represents a liability offensively but is able to provide some support on occasion.
Brandon Valenzuela entered at first base with Kazuma Okamoto shifting to third, Charles McAdoo moving over to second base and Ernie Clement shifting to shortstop.
Moments later, the Blue Jays announced an update. “UPDATE: SS Andrés Giménez was removed from today’s game with right hamstring tightness,” the team wrote on X.
Just seeing how many pieces Toronto had to move once Gimenez was lifted speaks to how important he is to this team’s overall defensive identity.
Manager John Schneider will likely provide a further update on Gimenez’s condition after the game and whether he will be heading to the injured list.
