The Toronto Blue Jays keep trying to improve their early-season results after going 7-11 during the first three weeks of play, although a steady stream of injuries isn't making it easy.

Toronto already entered the season with a hurt rotation, and injuries have kept piling up, thus forcing frequent adjustments to the pitching staff.

The Blue Jays dealt with the absences of Jose Berrios, Shane Bieber, and Yimi Garcia, among others, from spring training and are navigating a shortened rotation while reinforcements work their way back.

Right-hander Trey Yesavage is one of those. The 22-year-old pitcher keeps recovering from a shoulder impingement, and most recently, he threw 71 pitches in his third rehab start while averaging 93.3 mph with his fastball.

According to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon, Yesavage is nearing a return following his latest rehab outing.

“Four Blue Jays pitchers went down ahead of or during spring training. The first reinforcement may soon return,” Bannon reported. “After 4 1/3 innings for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Trey Yesavage could return to the Jays next week.”

Bannon noted that his velocity was slightly down compared to last year's and that his command also was inconsistent at times. However, Bannon added that Yesavage's latest outing pleased Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

“(Yesavage's) velocity, averaging 93.3 mph with his fastball, was slightly down from his 2025 outings, and the fastball command was spotty, at times,” Bannon wrote. “But the outing, Schneider said, was everything the Jays expected from a workload and velocity perspective.”

Yesavage's progression could see him rejoin the major-league roster during their ongoing road trip, although Scheinder stopped short of providing a fixed timeline.

However, the Blue Jays manager issued a promising update, saying the next few days will determine the exact moment of Yesavage's impending call-up.

“Still don’t know where the next one’s going to be,” Schneider said. “Will probably figure that out in the next couple days.”

The Blue Jays are coming off a road series loss to the Milwaukee Brewers and will start a new one against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, with the first pitch set for 9:40 p.m. ET.
