George Springer is slashing .234/.317/.403 with 12 home runs in 2026, but the Toronto Blue Jays veteran could be on the move before Monday's trade deadline after MLB Network insider Jon Morosi reported that Toronto and the Philadelphia Phillies are emerging as trade partners.
The 36-year-old is in the final year of his guaranteed contract and has served as Toronto's primary designated hitter this season. A four-time All-Star and the 2017 World Series MVP, Springer has maintained his decent numbers, with his best season with Toronto coming in 2025, when he batted .309 with 32 home runs.
Springer's trade stock has risen in the last week, carrying a .333 batting average, with two home runs and a double for a 1.012 OPS in his last seven games.

Toronto sits at 48-57 and in last place in the American League East, positioning the club as sellers ahead of the deadline. Morosi reported the Phillies have multiple needs and Toronto has available veterans who fit, including Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, Jeff Hoffman, Springer and Daulton Varsho. He added that the Blue Jays front office knows the Phillies' farm system well, as their Spring Training complexes sit close together in Florida.
Springer's trade market could be limited by a thin pool of teams seeking a right-handed bat, and his fit as a primary DH narrows his suitors further. Add the recent injuries this season, and Toronto may need to eat part of his remaining salary to move him for a decent prospect in return.
With four days left before the deadline, the Blue Jays face a decision on how much value they can extract for Springer, whether that comes from Philadelphia or another club looking for a veteran bat down the stretch.
