Trey Yesavage has quickly become one of the most important young arms in the Toronto Blue Jays’ rotation. The 23-year-old arrived in the majors with plenty of hype after Toronto selected him 20th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft, but his emergence this season has given the club another reliable option behind its veteran starters.

Yesavage has made 18 starts and worked 93⅔ innings, going 5-5 with a 3.65 ERA and 91 strikeouts. He also spent time on the injured list earlier this season because of a right shoulder impingement before returning to the rotation and establishing himself as a regular part of Toronto’s pitching plans.

His most recent start against the Houston Astros, however, lasted only two innings. Yesavage exited after experiencing discomfort in his left knee, and the Blue Jays placed him on the injured list while doctors evaluated the issue. The club has now provided a significant update on what comes next.

Trey Yesavage underwent surgery to repair his meniscus, manager John Schneider said (via Mitch Bannon of The Athletic). Yesavage will be considered week to week, but the Blue Jays are not ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

The decision gives Toronto a clearer path forward while leaving open the possibility that Yesavage could return during the stretch run. His recovery will determine whether that becomes realistic.

Yesavage’s situation is not the only pitching concern Toronto is managing. Jameson Taillon also left Monday’s 2-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox after four innings because of right forearm discomfort. Schneider confirmed Tailon has been diagnosed with right forearm tendinitis, though an MRI revealed no structural damage. The club later announced he has been placed on the 15-day injured list.

That adds another question to a rotation that has relied heavily on its depth throughout the season.

Toronto will monitor Yesavage’s recovery while keeping the door open for a return. The Blue Jays have not put a timetable on that possibility, but Schneider’s comments make one thing clear: the organization has not given up on seeing its young starter pitch again this season.
