Jose Berrios has watched on as the Toronto Blue Jays have had a disappointing start to the 2026 MLB season. After starting with a 4-1 record, the Blue Jays have dropped their last four games, most recently suffering a 3-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Now, Toronto will turn its attention to its next series, a World Series rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers beginning on Monday.
Berríos has now entered his sixth season with the Blue Jays after spending the first half of his MLB career with the Minnesota Twins. In 2025, the former Gold Glove Award winner pitched in 31 games, making 30 starts, and finished with a 9-5 record, a 4.17 ERA and 138 strikeouts, while allowing 160 hits and 86 runs.

Toward the end of the 2025 season, Berrios dealt with right elbow inflammation. A few months later, in mid-March 2026, he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in the same pitching elbow after a routine MRI. The Puerto Rican right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list to begin the 2026 season, with no surgery planned. He has missed Toronto’s first nine games of the season.
Berríos has been progressing through a throwing program as part of his recovery. On Saturday, he was upgraded to throwing to live hitters in Dunedin and reported feeling good afterward. And, according to the Blue Jays, he will repeat the live hitting session on Tuesday as he continues to ramp up.
"Jose Berrios threw to live hitters in Dunedin on Saturday, felt good. He’ll repeat that on Tuesday," Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling wrote on X.
The Blue Jays will begin their series against the Dodgers on Monday at 7:07 p.m. ET. Then, they will remain in Toronto when the Minnesota Twins come to town beginning on Friday.
