The Toronto Blue Jays are finalizing preparations for the 2026 MLB season with heightened expectations following last year’s postseason run. Toronto will open the new campaign at home against the Athletics, looking to build on the momentum generated by a roster that proved capable of competing deep into October.

The Blue Jays went 94-68 in 2025, won the AL East, and advanced to the World Series for the first time since 1993. Although they fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games, the run established Toronto as a legitimate contender entering 2026.

With Opening Day approaching, the organization made some key decisions involving its leadership on Monday.

According to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, Toronto has agreed to contract extensions with manager John Schneider and executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager Ross Atkins. Atkins received a five-year extension, while Schneider signed a two-year extension that runs through 2028.

The team confirmed the move shortly after: “We’ve agreed to extensions with Manager John Schneider and Executive Vice President, Baseball Operations & General Manager Ross Atkins!”

Schneider reacted to the news and expressed his excitement to remain in Toronto: “I am ecstatic to continue leading the Blue Jays," the 46-year-old said via Sportnet’s
Ben Nicholson-Smith.

Schneider progressed through the organization’s coaching ranks before taking over as manager in 2022. Since then, he has led Toronto through its most successful stretch in decades, culminating in the 2025 AL pennant and World Series appearance.

Atkins has overseen baseball operations since 2015, guiding the franchise through a rebuild and into contention. His long-term roster construction and player development strategy played a central role in the club’s 2025 success.

By extending both Schneider and Atkins ahead of Opening Day, the Blue Jays have reinforced stability at the top of the organization as they enter the 2026 season with the expectation of another deep postseason run.
