The Toronto Blue Jays are trying to climb back into the American League East picture. At 44-49, Toronto sits third in the division, 11 games back of the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, with a minus-35 run differential. One steady presence for the Blue Jays this season has been shortstop Andres Gimenez.
He arrived in Toronto via trade from the Cleveland Guardians in December 2024 after winning three straight AL Gold Glove awards at second base. He has since shifted to shortstop, taking over the position after Bo Bichette departed via free agency to the New York Mets.
Offensively, Gimenez has struggled to find consistency in 2026.

The 27-year-old is batting .234 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs across 88 games, posting a .645 OPS that ranks well below the .837 mark he posted in his lone All-Star season in 2022 in Cleveland. His glove has remained the constant, with Gimenez continuing to anchor Toronto’s infield defense even as his bat has cooled off.
Away from the field, Gimenez is looking toward the next generation. He announced on Thursday on Instagram that he is partnering with Flex Work Management for an upcoming youth baseball camp in Ontario, Canada.
In the post, Gimenez said he is looking forward to "a day filled with baseball, smiles and great memories" with the campers, adding that spots can be reserved through the link in his bio.
For Gimenez, the camp will be an opportunity to connect with the next generation of baseball players in Canada and grow the game in his new home country. Toronto is set to open a three-game series against the San Diego Padres on Friday as the Blue Jays try to close the gap in a crowded AL postseason race.
