According to Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni may be on the hot seat depending on the result of this season.
"If the Eagles falter because Sirianni fails to get his team back on track, the organization should consider a quick hook to take full advantage of the window with its current core."
Philadelphia hired Sirianni ahead of the 2021 NFL season, after firing Super Bowl-winning coach Doug Peterson. Despite the pressure of being a first-time head coach in one of the biggest sports markets, Sirianni has revitalized Philadelphia into a powerhouse once again.
In his first season, the Eagles doubled their win total from the year before and returned to the playoffs, a mark of success that they have had every year with Sirianni at the helm. Additionally, over the last five years, the Eagles have won three division titles, two conference championships, and a victory in Super Bowl LIX in 2025.
That sustained success has earned Sirianni the backing of general manager Howie Roseman, who offered a strong defense of his head coach in 2025 end-of-season press conference.
“I’m incredibly proud of him,” Roseman said. “I feel incredibly grateful that I’m working with someone who, as a head coach, is elite at being a head coach.”
Despite winning 11 games in four straight seasons, with Sirianni as a non-play caller, the success has often been tied to the quality of his offensive coordinators. With Shane Steichen and Kellen Moore, who both landed head coaching jobs, the outcome was reaching the Super Bowl.
With Brian Johnson and Kevin Patullo, late-season blunders and first-round exits followed. The latter two names were in-house promotions made by Sirianni, with those promotions becoming a major criticism of Sirianni.
After the disappointing 23-19 Wild Card loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni shared a brief exchange, captured by HBO’s "Hard Knocks", that offered a glimpse into the quarterback’s faith in his head coach. As the Eagles’ season came to an end, Hurts told Sirianni, “We’ll be back.” Sirianni responded simply: “I have no doubt.”
Hurts became the Eagles'= full-time starter in Sirianni's first year and their relationship and confidence in each other has continued to grow year after year. Saquon Barkley, who had the best season of his career with Sirianni, shares that same belief in Sirianni and believes that he is underappreciated.
“He doesn’t get enough credit at all, in my opinion. I don’t get why he doesn’t,” Barkley said. “Like, what he’s doing, in real time, is legendary.”
There are legitimate questions surrounding Sirianni, but his five-year track record suggests he deserves more credit than he typically receives.
While the speculation of Sirianni's future is a talking point, his and the Eagles' focus is on the upcoming season, with Sirianni mantra this year being "100% alignment, 0% entitlement."
The locker room and the front office is behind him heading into his sixth year with the franchise, looking to add another championship to an already impressive resume.
