The Buffalo Bills confirmed Saturday that defensive tackle Ed Oliver lost his 2-year-old son.
According to reports, Oliver’s son passed away back in June. Buffalo Rumblings said the police responded to reports about an “unresponsive young male” who had been pulled out of a pool in Houston.
While additional details haven’t been shared at this time, the Bills issued a statement on this tragedy.
“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane said. “It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss.”
According to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, Oliver is asking for “privacy and prayers at this very difficult time.”

As you’d imagine, football fans around the country are keeping Oliver’s family in their thoughts and prayers.
“No parent should have to bury a child,” Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated said. “Deepest sympathy and prayers to the Oliver family.”
“Devastating. Can’t even imagine losing a child. Nothing any parent should ever have to experience,” one person replied.
“Praying for Ed Oliver and his family,” one fan said.
“That is absolutely devastating. I’m so sorry for their loss. My condolences to Ed Oliver and his wife,” another fan commented.
Oliver missed the Bills’ joint practice this past Thursday. It’s unclear if he’ll miss time during the regular season.
