It's not an exaggeration to say Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has completely lost the fan base's trust over the past few days.

Two days ago, the Bills fired Sean McDermott because ownership wants a new voice leading the team. The longtime head coach went 98-50 during his run in Buffalo. The biggest knock on him is that he failed to reach the Super Bowl despite making the playoffs eight times in nine seasons.

Speaking to the media Wednesday afternoon, Beane was asked about his shortcomings in Buffalo. Fans keep saying he wasted a Day 2 draft pick on wide receiver Keon Coleman. Before he can even answer that question, Bills owner Terry Pegula threw McDermott under the bus.

“The coaching staff pushed to draft Coleman,” Pegula told reporters. “That was Brand Beane being a team player and taking advice of his coaching staff who felt strongly about the player. He’s taken the heat over it, and not saying a word about it. I’m here to tell you the true story.”

It didn't take long for NFL fans to dig up old videos of Beane raving about Coleman. After the Florida State product ran a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash, he said that would "help" Buffalo's chances of drafting him.

In a separate video, Beane made it known that he was set on selecting Coleman with the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

"When I went to bed that night I was like, it’s Keon unless someone just blows us away," Beane said.

Brandon Beane gets promoted.

Although the Bills haven't drafted well of late, Beane has been promoted to president of football operations.

“I have full faith in and have witnessed Brandon’s outstanding leadership style and have confidence in his abilities to lead our organization,” Pegula said in a statement.

If Beane wants to win back the fan base's support, he'll have to crush this offseason. First things first though, he has to hire the right head coach.
