Bill Simmons wants to see a major change in the WNBA.
The longtime sports writer and podcast host is fed up with what he's seeing from the WNBA, specifically their leadership. Simmons, the founder of The Ringer, is calling for the WNBA to change commissioners. He wants to see the league fire Cathy Engelbert and move on with someone else.
Simmons is unhappy with how Engelbert has handled several controversies, from the treatment of Caitlin Clark, to the league's stance on transgender athletes and more.

Simmons, who is known for his love of the Boston Celtics and the NBA, believes that the WNBA is in desperate need of change.
"Nobody needs a commissioner more than the WNBA right now. … All anyone talks about is dumb (expletive). Anyone who participates in (expletive) discourse about the league, I think, that speaks more about them than the league. But what the league really needs is a commissioner, and I would personally bet anything that we will not have this commissioner next year."
Simmons fed up with Engelbert's leadership
Simmons is fed up with what he's seen from the WNBA's leadership.
"I've never seen a league more determined to not push fun stars and fun storylines and fun people. … Olivia Miles, if this would be the NBA, this would be anyone talked about, like, 'Have you seen Olivia Miles? She's on tonight.' … In the WNBA, she's like an annoyance, that she's just a good storyline. Push your (expletive) players!" he said.
Simmons is confident that the WNBA will change commissioners.
"Instead, all this discourse stuff and they're just stepping in bear traps, left and right, because they have no adults in charge of the league."
Simmons certainly isn't alone in feeling this way, but he clearly thinks it's time for a major change.
