Bill Belichick unsurprisingly had little to say publicly about his Pro Football Hall of Fame omission.
The legendary head coach didn't get elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year on the ballot. ESPN broke the news before the NFL revealed the 2026 class, which included former New England Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri but left off Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
Unlike most people up for Hall of Fame consideration, Belichick isn't retired. The 73-year-old is preparing for his second season at North Carolina after the Tar Heels went 4-8 in 2025.
Belichick kept his attention on his current job when asked Tuesday about the Hall of Fame snub, per Brad Crawford of 247Sports.
"No, I'm focused on coaching this team ... I focus on what I can do and things that are out of my control, I don't worry about," Belichick said.
Reported reasons behind Belichick's Hall of Fame snub

ESPN stunned the football world when revealing on Jan. 27 that Belichick didn't receive the 40 of 50 votes necessary for Hall of Fame induction.
According to Don Van Natta Jr. and Seth Wickersham, former Indianapolis Colts general manager Bill Polian argued that Belichick should wait a year as punishment for the Spygate and Deflategate cheating scandals. Polian denied that claim and said Belichick "deserves" to be in the Hall of Fame, but he couldn't recall with 100 percent certainty if he voted for him.
Sources claimed Belichick was "puzzled" and "disappointed" by falling short of Hall of Fame induction.
"Six Super Bowls isn't enough?" Belichick allegedly asked an associate. He wondered to another confidant, "What does a guy have to do?"
Those six rings are the most by any head coach, and he won two more Super Bowls as a defensive coordinator with the New York Giants. Belichick is second to Don Shula in all-time wins (333) when including his record-setting 31 postseason triumphs.
The outcome sparked outrage among many of Belichick's former players. His longtime quarterback, Tom Brady, blasted the "completely ridiculous" vote.
"He's incredible," Brady said of Belichick. "There's no coach I'd rather play for. If I'm picking one coach to go out there to win a Super Bowl -- give me one season -- I'm taking Bill Belichick. So that's enough said."
