For generations the closest team the Big Ten Conference has had to the southeastern United States geographically has been Indiana. But with the SEC seemingly on the outs with longtime member LSU, some fans believe that now should be the time for the Big Ten to take advantage of the situation and add a southeastern footprint.
Earlier today reports emerged that the SEC is vying for the authority to expel LSU from the conference. While LSU is not expected to actually do something like that in the unlikely event that they get that authority, fans and analysts have nevertheless started fantasizing about what the Tigers would do if it happened.
“LSU to the Big Ten”
For many, the answer is obvious: Join the Big Ten.
“The BigTen could just boot Rutgers and add LSU,” one user on X mused.
“Still obviously a long ways to go but LSU in the BigTen would be pretty wild,” Ryan Glasspiegel wrote.
“Greg Sankey has already been getting pushed around by Tony Petitti and the BigTen in all CFP expansion talks, pushing LSU out as one of if not the top brand in his conference for the BigTen to potentially acquire would be the worst business move he ever makes, and it’d be because his personal feelings are hurt before LSU ever broke a rule,” a third declared.
“The SEC giving LSU to the BigTen would be the worst decision in this era of college sports.”
“The SEC would be foolish. LSU to the BigTEN immediately.”

LSU has become the most polarizing program in college football in the months since they hired Lane Kiffin as their head coach. At this point there’s truly no telling which direction things are going to go with it.
Maybe this all blows over and fades into memes or maybe it becomes the same kind of seismic change to college sports that we’ve seen occur on an almost yearly basis.
LSU joining the Big Ten would be arguably bigger than any realignment ever, including USC leaving the Pac-12 for the Big Ten or Texas leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.
