A beloved country music star was tragically found dead in a "freak" accident at 32 years old.
Jerry Leach, the bassist for popular country-rock band Not Leaving Sober, has been found dead. He was tragically found dead, pinned behind a car. According to Wide Open Country, Leach was found pinned behind a vehicle on Tuesday, March 10.
Neighbors and emergency responders were able to lift the car off of the country music star. However, tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was found dead in Jefferson Township, New Jersey.
"We are incredibly sad to announce that this past Tuesday we learned of the passing of our good friend, brother and bass player, Jerry Leach. This devastating news comes as a shock to all of us. Jerry was far more than a bass player to us — he became a brother who we got to know very closely," the band announced.
"Jerry started as a friend of the band who answered the call when he heard we were looking for a bassist and quickly learned 60-some-odd songs in the matter of a few weeks, and really started his time with us with 2 long road trips out of state to Maryland and then New Hampshire. At the time, these gigs were a hard sell. We hadn’t really made much of a name for ourselves yet and joining a new band going away for multiple weekends probably wasn’t the most appealing. Multiple times during those weekends, Jerry just kept repeating “I just want to help you guys”, but that was just the kind of person he was," they added.
"Fast forward 4 years and probably 300 shows later, this band would never have reached the heights it has without Jerry and his contributions. He loved being a part of the writing process and his signature style is easily recognizable on the songs he wrote and recorded with us."
Everyone is deeply saddened.
"To us and probably to many of you, Jerry is known for his peculiar, wild sense of humor and his on-stage antics. He loved messing with the band on stage, screaming “HOSSSS” during Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy and his famous “WOO” during Friends in Low Places. If he got one of us to mess up the lyrics, then it was mission accomplished for him 😂 That’s only a short list of things he did on stage that made him who he is."
The band was scheduled to perform in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on April 4. However, it's unclear at this time if the show will go on.
They have previously opened for major acts such as Morgan Wallen, Florida Georgia Line and Jason Aldean.
May he rest in peace.
