The Chicago Bears enter their Week 7 matchup against the New England Patriots looking to build on their Week 6 victory. Caleb Williams and the offense have shown they can put points on the board in a hurry, while the defense has flashed the playmaking ability to disrupt opposing offenses. However, the Patriots present a difficult test, with Drake Maye leading an offense that can punish defenses when given opportunities to create explosive plays.
Chicago will need to find the right balance on both sides of the ball to secure another win. Williams must continue to build on his recent progress, while the defense needs to pressure Maye without surrendering the big plays that can swing a game. Here is why the Bears will come out on top in Week 7.
Bears Win 27-20
OFFENSE

Chicago has a high-powered offense that can put points on the board at any moment. However, the Patriots have a well-coached defense with the personnel to keep the Bears in check. The biggest factor in this matchup will be quarterback play. Williams has already proven to be a difference-maker with his playmaking ability alone. Add in his commitment to mastering the structure of the offense, and he has the tools to beat almost any defense.
The Patriots will present just as much of a challenge to Williams as he does to their defense. They will aim to take away the Bears’ running game and force Williams to make extraordinary plays to beat them. However, with an improved offensive line in front of him, that strategy could backfire. If Williams gets enough time in the pocket, can he push the ball downfield to his playmakers and exploit the Patriots’ defense?
DEFENSE

The Bears’ defense can suffocate offenses of any caliber, but it can also surrender big plays at any moment. Losing one of their top edge rushers to suspension makes the challenge even tougher. Kyler Gordon provided a spark for a defense that largely controlled an offense more explosive than New England’s in Week 6. The key for Chicago will be pressuring Drake Maye while keeping the action in front of the secondary.
Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will challenge Dennis Allen‘s group by leaning on the short passing game early. He will test the Bears’ patience and see whether any defenders abandon their assignments in an attempt to make a big play. That approach has helped get the Patriots’ offense going lately. Once New England connects on an explosive play, opposing defenses can struggle to regroup, creating opportunities for Maye to take over.
Maye and McDaniels will take what the Bears give them early in the game. Chicago must remain disciplined and make New England earn every yard to prevent the Patriots from generating momentum. If the Bears can limit explosive plays and force the Patriots to sustain long drives, they should have a chance to control the game and secure a 27-20 victory.
