The Chicago Bears have activated cornerback Kyler Gordon from the physically unable to perform list before Sunday’s matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.
Chicago announced the move Saturday, clearing Gordon to return after a calf injury kept him out of training camp and the first five regular-season games. The Bears also signed defensive back Nick McCloud, placed defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo on injured reserve and released safety Xavier Woods.
Gordon gives defensive coordinator Dennis Allen another option in the slot as Chicago looks to strengthen its coverage.
The Bears opened Gordon’s 21-day practice window on Sept. 30, allowing him to work toward a return while the team evaluated his readiness. He practiced during that period and was activated before the deadline, putting him in position to make his 2026 debut against Atlanta.
Head coach Ben Johnson praised Gordon’s progress Friday. “He’s done a great job taking everything that we’ve assigned him so far,” Johnson said. He also expressed confidence that Gordon could contribute in multiple ways. The cornerback’s workload could be managed as he returns from the extended absence.
Odeyingbo’s move to injured reserve creates a setback up front. He injured his quadriceps during last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers and must miss at least four games. His absence adds to Chicago’s defensive-line concerns, with Montez Sweat serving a two-game suspension.

Woods’ release creates another change in the secondary, while McCloud’s promotion gives Chicago additional defensive-back depth. The Bears also elevated linebacker Buddy Johnson and running back Zavier Scott from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.
Gordon’s activation is the headline move, but Chicago will need contributions across the defense against Atlanta. His return offers a potential lift in coverage, while the other transactions show the Bears balancing reinforcements with injuries ahead of a key road test.
