The Chicago Bears are dealing with yet another injury scare, this time involving two of their star players. Wide receiver Rome Odunze and running back D’Andre Swift both exited practice early Thursday with apparent injuries, according to Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune.

Odunze was the first to go down, coming up hobbled during an install period early in practice. The injury reportedly appeared to involve his right leg.

The good news is that Odunze didn’t appear too concerned about the injury. He initially tried to stay in practice before trainers ultimately pulled him out.

As for Swift, his injury came near the tail end of practice during a full-team period. The running back took a carry on first-and-10 from the Bears’ own 1-yard line before leaving the field while holding his midsection.

Dan Wiederer of The Athletic noted that Chicago’s starting running back appeared to be in “significant discomfort” as he left the field.

Head coach Ben Johnson isn’t scheduled to meet with the media again until next week, meaning the severity of both injuries could remain a mystery for the time being. The Bears’ first official injury report won’t come out until Wednesday.

Bears’ Injury Concerns Continue to Mount

With Chicago’s season kicking off just 10 days from now, the new injury concerns are the last thing this team needed.

The Bears are already dealing with injuries to fellow running back Kyle Monangai and wide receiver Luther Burden III. Monangai is the more serious case, remaining week-to-week while being held out of practice.

If Monangai and Swift are unable to suit up for Week 1, fourth-year running back Roschon Johnson would be next in line on the depth chart.

As for Burden, the second-year receiver out of Missouri is dealing with a groin injury. However, he appears to be nearing full health, with Johnson saying the other day that he “looks 100 percent.”

If Odunze’s injury turns out to be more concerning than initially expected, Burden and tight end Colston Loveland would likely see an increased share of the targets.

But for now, Bears fans will have to hold their breath and hope neither player misses any time.
