Former New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is one step closer to becoming a full-time politician.

Teixeira, a World Series champion and three-time All-Star, announced last August that he was running for Congress in Texas’ 21st District. He said his career change was inspired by his desire to "help defend President Trump’s America First agenda."

Well, Teixeira's decision was validated this week. The former MLB star won his Republican House primary race in Texas.

"This is a huge victory, and I’m truly honored to have such strong support from the people of TX-21. Thank you! I’m so grateful to everyone who voted, put in the work, donated, and especially prayed for us along the way," Teixeira wrote on social media. "My amazing family has been by my side every step of the way – my wonderful wife Leigh and our three kids – and I’m blessed by their support as I prepare to serve the country we love. We’re going to run a strong race and win big in November, then hit the ground running to fight for Texas families. Thank you again, TX-21. God bless Texas, and God bless America."

Teixeira's skills on the diamond could come in handy.

Immediately after Teixeira won his primary race, MLB fans declared that Republicans will win the Congressional Baseball Game in 2027.

"Well, even in this uncertain era, one thing's for sure: Democrats aren't winning the Congressional Baseball Game for the foreseeable future," one person wrote on social media.

"Republicans are going to mercy rule the Congressional Baseball Game in 2027," a second person said.

"Republicans are winning the Congressional softball game for the next decade," another person declared.

Teixeira had a .268 batting average with 409 home runs and 1,298 RBIs during his MLB career.

Suffice to say, Teixeira won't get many pitches to hit.
