13 years ago then-President Barack Obama invited the Seattle Seahawks to the White House after their first-ever Super Bowl victory over the Denver Broncos. He had a special message for the latest batch of Seahawks to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
Taking to X on Sunday following the Seahawks' Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots, Obama congratulated the team on their victory. He gave special mentions to Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III as well as starting QB Sam Darnold for completing his career comeback journey.
"Congratulations to the Super Bowl champion @Seahawks ! This defense was special. MVP Kenneth Walker was dominant. And Sam Darnold gave us one of the best comeback stories in a long time. Enjoy the celebration," Obama wrote.
Praise for Obama and the Seahawks
Plenty of NFL fans were happy to the see the 44th President highlighting the Super Bowl for the players without trying to turn it into something else:
"Wild how one tweet can celebrate a game, the players, and the city, without turning it into a culture war. Almost like leadership doesn’t need outrage to be loud," one user remarked in the replies.
"Agreed! Walker played a great game but it would have been cool to see Myers get the MVP for his performance. But that defense was LIGHTS OUT! They’re gonna be a good team for years to come. So happy for Darnold too what a great story he’s been. But don’t forget Mr President," wrote another.
"This is how a real President tweets about the Super Bowl," a third declared.
"What a class act, President Obama. We miss leaders who celebrate wins with grace like this. Defense was unreal, Darnold's story is inspiring."

It will be President Donald Trump inviting the Seattle Seahawks to the White House this year though. President Trump had a number of serious gripes with the NFL this year over their Super Bowl programming, particularly their entertainment choices for the halftime show.
But it's unlikely that he allows those gripes to keep him from inviting the Seahawks to the nation's capital. You never really know though...
