Former U.S. President Barack Obama was watching Monday night's NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament national title game.
No. 1 seed Michigan took down No. 2 seed UConn to win the national championship. Michigan head coach Dusty May pulled off quite the turnaround in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines were the country's most dominant team from start to finish in 2026.
Obama, an avid basketball fan, was watching Monday night's game with a close eye. Following the game, he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to send a congratulatory message to the Michigan men's basketball program.

Obama congratulated Michigan's team, head coach Dusty May and Most Outstanding Player Elliott Cadeau.
"Congratulations to @CoachDustyMay , Elliot Cadeau, and @UMichBBall on winning their first title since 1989! This team dominated the tournament from start to finish. Well deserved. Go Blue!" he wrote on X.
Michigan is expected to contend again in 2026-27
Michigan has opened as the No. 1 team in the country in ESPN's way-too-early preseason Top 25 rankings.
"The reigning national champions have a legitimate chance to go back-to-back depending on the NBA draft decisions of frontcourt stalwarts Aday Mara and Morez Johnson Jr. Entering the NCAA tournament, both players were projected in the late first round. After high-level performances in the tournament, though, both could justifiably leave. Elliot Cadeau and Trey McKenney are expected to return, though, while incoming five-star recruit Brandon McCoy should join them on the perimeter," ESPN's Jeff Borzello wrote.
