The Baltimore Ravens waived veteran wide receiver Chris Moore and released wide receiver Xavier Guillory from the practice squad on Oct. 13. The moves created a roster path for rookie wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane (wrist) to return from injured reserve.

Lane is eligible to come back for the Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, although the club had not activated him at the time of the podcast. The Ravens activated him on Oct. 14.

Locked On Ravens host Kevin Oestreicher viewed Tuesday’s transactions as preparation for Lane’s return and a potentially meaningful role in the receiving rotation. Lane’s size gives Baltimore an outside option with a different profile from its established targets. However, his workload will hinge on how fully he has recovered from the wrist injury and how quickly the coaching staff wants to increase his snaps.

The rookie appeared in one game before going on injured reserve. He caught one pass on three targets for 11 yards.

Baltimore coach Jesse Minter said on Monday that Lane had put himself in a good place physically.

Lane’s return adds an option to a passing game driven by wide receiver Zay Flowers and supported by Rashod Bateman. Oestreicher stated Lane can help the offense as a bigger boundary target who can provide the versatile skills that have characterized the receiver corps through five weeks.

The immediate question is whether Lane enters the game as a situational contributor or quickly earns a larger share of the offensive snaps.

Ravens News and Notes

– Flowers has supplied the passing game’s early production, recording 26 catches for 405 yards and two touchdowns in four games. His output gives the offense a proven lead target as it considers where Lane fits into the weekly rotation.

– Wide receiver Devontez Walker has four catches for 75 yards and a touchdown, including his score in the Week 5 win over Atlanta. Oestreicher said Walker should remain part of the offensive plan even if Lane returns.
