Zilla Fatu's WWE arrival came on NXT rather than the main roster, despite plenty of speculation that he could immediately become part of The Bloodline storyline. A new report has now provided an update on WWE's plans for the 26-year-old and suggests that his developmental brand debut was not a change of direction.
According to "False Finish," Fatu was always expected to begin his WWE run in NXT. The report stated that the Stamford-based promotion's plan was for Fatu to follow a similar route to his cousin Solo Sikoa, who also started in NXT before eventually making his way to the main roster in 2022.
The report is notable because Fatu had previously spoken about wanting to become part of The Bloodline. With the faction once again playing a prominent role in WWE throughout 2026, his eventual arrival alongside the group had become a popular possibility among fans.
For now, though, WWE appears to be taking a different approach with Zilla Fatu. His first appearance came on the August 11 episode of NXT, where he immediately became involved in the NXT Championship picture.
Zilla Fatu Made His Presence Felt on WWE NXT
Fatu made an unannounced appearance during the main event on this week's NXT, which featured Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana competing for a future shot at Tony D'Angelo's NXT Championship. The match was progressing toward a finish when the 26-year-old star suddenly entered the ring.
The newcomer attacked both Waller and Montana, bringing the match to an end without a winner. The referee called for a no-contest after Fatu had taken both competitors out of the equation.
Fatu then turned his attention toward D'Angelo, who was at the commentary desk. He pointed toward the NXT Championship and made his intentions clear before the show ended.
The debut gave Zilla Fatu an immediate connection to NXT's top title without requiring a lengthy introduction. It also left Grayson Waller with plenty to answer for after losing his chance to earn a championship opportunity.
Fatu arrived in WWE after building his reputation on the independent wrestling scene. The son of the late Umaga has also been trained by WWE Hall of Famer Booker T and comes from the same Anoa'i-Fatu wrestling family that includes Roman Reigns, The Usos and Solo Sikoa.
His first night in WWE has now established his immediate direction. Whether that eventually leads Fatu toward the main roster and The Bloodline remains to be seen, but WWE appears to be giving him time to establish himself in NXT first.
