Azzi Fudd’s rookie season has come to an abrupt end, but the Dallas Wings star is already looking ahead. After making an immediate impact as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, Fudd now faces a period of recovery before she can return to the court.
The 21-year-old guard had been sidelined for five consecutive games because of a knee issue before the Wings announced Wednesday that she would miss the remainder of the season and undergo a procedure. Fudd averaged 13.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 43.7% from the field and 37.6% from three-point range in her debut season.

Fudd addressed the situation for the first time Wednesday through her Instagram Stories:
“Hey, Most of you probably already saw. I’ve got a small procedure coming up on my knee, and i’ll be out as l recover. I know exactly what comes next: rehab, put in the work, come back ready and better than before. Grateful for my family, my circle, and the Wings organization for the support. Thank you for all the messages today. They mean a lot to me.”
Fudd will begin what should be an extensive offseason of rehabilitation. Dallas selected her with the first pick because of her shooting ability, offensive versatility and long-term potential, and she showed flashes of why the organization views her as a foundational piece alongside teammate, Paige Bueckers.
The Wings will now have to finish without Fudd, who had impressed in her first season in Dallas. Dallas enters Thursday’s game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever sitting eighth in the WNBA standings with eight games remaining.
