The Colorado Avalanche were Presidents' Trophy winners in 2025-26, and on their path to the Western Conference Finals, the team went 8-1, dominating both the Los Angeles Kings and Minnesota Wild in that time.
Coming into their matchup with the Vegas Golden Knights, the Avalanche were considered the heavy favorites, but after being outscored 12-6 through their first three games, they now face a 3-0 hole needing to win four straight games to reach the Stanley Cup Final. That potential comeback begins on Tuesday night in Vegas, and after the first three games, they're now expected to make a major change.

After Scott Wedgewood posted a save percentage below .890 in two of the first three games of the series, the team are set to make a change, with Mackenzie Blackwood reportedly set to start Game 4 after taking morning skate in the starters net.
Whether or not Blackwood is the better overall goaltender now does not matter, as the team have fallen into an 0-3 hole behind Wedgewood, and while he has posted just an .872 save percentage through three games this post-season, a change is what's needed to spark this Avalanche team.
Unfortunately, a change in net can not bring back the offensive woes this team has dealt with thus far or get the likes of Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar back to 100%, but if Wedgewood can just steal this one game on the road, Colorado may have the life needed to make an improbable comeback.
