Despite being a member of “The Georgia Gang” on FOX 5 Atlanta, it doesn’t sound like Phil Kent is rooting for Angel Reese and the Dream.
The WNBA Finals was brought up during a recent edition of “The Georgia Gang.” As of this Saturday, the Dream have a 2-1 lead over the Valkyries thanks to Reese’s dominant start to the series. She had 21 points and 12 rebounds in Atlanta’s Game 3 win.
Even though Reese deserves praise, Kent took a jab at her on FOX 5 Atlanta. Before his co-workers changed the topic of conversation, he threw out this not-so-subtle comment: “Go Sophie Cunningham, not Angel Reese.”
The rest of “The Georgia Gang” came to Reese’s defense, but that didn’t stop Kent from questioning her status as a WNBA superstar. With that being said, Atlanta fans fired back at the FOX 5 Atlanta host on social media.

“Phil Kent has an allegiance to losers please go to the Indiana Gang,” one fan said.
“And yall wonder why we ride so hard for Angel Reese these white men are so broken its never been about basketball smh,” a second fan commented.
“You live in Georgia, you’re on a Georgia broadcast, your Georgia team is in wnba finals, and you say “go Sophie Cunningham” not Angel Reese Is WILD,” a social media user wrote.
“This is why I say she gets an unfathomable amount of hate. It’s almost the default topic for any casual WNBA convo… talk bad about Angel Reese. It’s insane,” another person replied.
Angel Reese’s greatness can’t be denied.
If fans want to keep moving the goalposts for Reese, that’s simply out of her control. What’s not out of her control is the impact she has on the WNBA Finals.
Reese has already recorded three straight double-doubles in the Finals. Overall, she’s averaging 19.4 points per game this postseason on 48.1% shooting from the field.
We’ll see if Reese continues her dominance and successfully leads Atlanta to a championship.
