Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London had the best game of his career on Thursday Night Football in Green Bay in Week Three. His performance was so strong that he earned Pro Football Focus Team of the Week honors. What did he do in Week Three to earn such an honor?
In the first two weeks of the season, London was hindered by an awful offensive performance from his quarterback, Cooper Rush. Rush was forced into the role after Penix Jr. couldn’t return from injury, and backup quarterback two, the one-and-done, showed up with a back injury a few days before the Week One matchup in Pittsburgh.
Because of Rush’s inept quarterback play, London was held to two passes for 29 yards. Week Two, in the home opener against Carolina, was slightly better, but his team-leading five catches for 51 yards was no little to write home about.
With Michael Penix Jr. at the helm in Week Three, his line had a complete 180º.
In the Falcons’ 35-14 victory against the Green Bay Packers, London caught nine passes for 194 yards, matching superstar wide receiver Bijan Robinson‘s 194 rushing yards.
His most impressive grab was for 68 yards. If not for being hawked down on the sideline, London would also have scored a passing touchdown along with tight end Austin Hooper.
This performance from London not only gives the NFL a glimpse of what the Falcons can be with a strong offensive scheme and competent quarterback play, but also reinforces London’s case as a top number one receiver in the NFL.
The Falcons are hoping his success continues as they march into New Orleans for Monday Night Football. In Week Four. The NFC South race may be early, but it’s already tight. A win against the Saints will go a long way toward helping the Falcons separate themselves.
