Last July, the Athletics made one of the most gutsy trades in franchise history, trading away elite closer Mason Miller to the San Diego Padres for four prospects.
The move was very unexpected as Miller has four years of control remaining on his contract, but the Athletics landed a haul in return.
Headlining the package was switch-hitting shortstop Leo De Vries, who is currently the No. 2 prospect in all of baseball.
De Vries is currently at the Double-A level in the Athletics organization.
Unfortunately, the Athletics have shut down the 19-year-old from throwing as of Monday as he is dealing with a sore right shoulder, ending his season.
The 19-year-old nonetheless had an excellent campaign with the Midland RockHounds.
In 93 games, De Vries slashed .290/.378/.458, good for an .863 OPS, with 13 home runs, 55 RBI and 34 stolen bases.
He showed great five-tool play at a young age, and should be a huge part of the Athletics future.
The team started to play him at third base this season, as shortstop Jacob Wilson has performed well in the big leagues. His ETA is currently set for the 2027 season.
