The Athletics received a boost Tuesday by activating shortstop Jacob Wilson from the 10-day injured list before opening a road series against the Detroit Tigers. The club also recalled left-hander Jacob Lopez from Triple-A Las Vegas while optioning right-hander Kade Morris and catcher Brian Serven to clear roster spots.
Wilson returns after missing time with right thumb inflammation, restoring one of the Athletics key young players to the lineup. The 24-year-old has appeared in 50 games this season, batting .277 with four home runs and 26 RBIs while continuing to establish himself as a centerpiece of the Athletics' rebuilding effort.
The former first-round pick quickly became one of the organization's most promising players after reaching the majors in 2024. His return comes at an important time as Athletics looks to build momentum before the All-Star break despite dealing with several injuries across the roster.
Lopez rejoins the Athletics after a productive stretch with Triple-A Las Vegas. The left-hander owns a 4-3 record with a 6.75 ERA in 12 major league appearances this season and earned another opportunity after putting together consecutive strong outings in the minors.
The corresponding moves send Morris and Serven back to Triple-A. Morris posted an 11.70 ERA in three appearances after making his major league debut in June, while Serven returns to Las Vegas with Shea Langeliers healthy enough to resume catching duties.

Wilson is expected to reclaim his everyday role at shortstop immediately, giving the Athletics another reliable contact hitter and steady defender up the middle. His return also reunites the Athletics' preferred middle infield as the club begins an important stretch of games before the All-Star break.
Athletics entered Tuesday with a 41-49 record and still within striking distance of the American League wild card race. Getting Wilson back alongside Lopez provides an immediate lift as the Athletics continue pushing for a stronger second half.
