One of the Athletics' most intriguing prospects is on his way to the big league club.

According to a report from ESPN's Jeff Passan, left-handed pitcher Gage Jump is being called up from Triple-A to make his MLB debut. The 23-year-old ranks third among all A's prospects and recently broke into the top 50 of MLB Pipeline's top prospects list at 41.

Jump was originally selected by San Diego in the 18th round of the 2021 draft in a Padres' class that featured Jackson Merrill, James Wood, and Chase Burns. He chose the college route, first attending UCLA and later transferring to LSU following a Tommy John surgery that kept him out of the 2023 season.

The left-hander was taken 73rd overall in 2024 by the A's and has quickly impressed in the minor league ranks. In his first full season in 2025, Jump pitched in 26 games (24 starts) across two levels. Starting in High-A, he was quickly promoted to Double-A where he posted a 3.64 ERA with 86 strikeouts in 81.2 innings across 20 appearances.

Jump began the 2026 season in Triple-A with the Las Vegas Aviators in the Pacific Coast League. He has had a limited workload, throwing 38 innings across nine starts and posting a 4.50 ERA, but has an impressive 56 strikeouts (13.26 K/9) on the year. Jump throws a four-seam fastball that can touch 97 mph and sits 93-96 as his primary, and features a slider, curveball, sweeper, and changeup to play off of it.

It remains to be seen how the young left-hander will figure into the Athletics' pitching plans, though there is clearly a need for stability in the starting rotation, which could give Jump a real opportunity to earn a role should he perform well.

With Jump coming up, nine of the A's top 15 prospects heading into the 2025 season will be with the big league club. As several key contributors have now graduated from prospect status, the Athletics' impressive crop of young talent continues to forecast a positive future for the organization.

Ranked ahead of Jump by MLB Pipeline is fellow left-hander Jamie Arnold and the league's No. 2 overall prospect shortstop Leo De Vries, who are both currently in Double-A.
